pimp that preserve 2011

Do you remember the corny, over the top MTV show that made Xzibit lose whatever “credibility” he had a household name? Well the incredibly talented folks behind Well Preserved put on a  shelf stable spin on Pimp My Ride with Pimp That Preserve.

This is the second annual contest to make your boring, plain Jane glass jars something fun, off-the-wall or just purty. But I’ve only been a Well Preserved reader for the past few months, so I missed 2010′s edition. The pure corny hilarity of wrapping your jams in felt, coating your pickles in paint, sticking on all sorts of cutesy and crazy labels seemed like too much fun to miss out on.

Except… I forget that I’m missing the all-important crafter’s gene. Procrastination is also my best friend and worst enemy. So when it dawned on me that today, December 12th, was the due date, I was in a tight spot. Instead of doing some cute thematic labels that would actually tell you what canned food you’re looking at, giving you some hint at the goodness staring you down, I just dressed them up.

Literally. With the accessories I had laying around in front of my face. Necklaces and a cute floral clutch joined my triple berry jam and peach-berry fruit butter. Because sometimes jams just want to have fun. What lady doesn’t have a night out where they aspire to be as wild and rambunctious as Cyndi Lauper?

While it’s not 100% a popularity contest, each Facebook “like” is a raffle entry to some great prizes. So if you love me… or even like me… or are reading this at all… Go give my party jammers a thumbs up on Facebook. Oh and enjoy the rest of the fun, pretty, outrageous preserves that make up the album. It’s packed with some great ideas for realistic jar decorations perfect for gifting. [That's a big hint-hint to all canners out there. Simple berry jam + adorable ribbon & label = most thoughtful, cute gift ever!]

But don’t forget to vote.
